iPhone 14/14 Pro: the satellite SOS function is based on a Qualcomm chip and components signed Apple

If the satellite SOS function of the new iPhone 14/14 Pro is currently only available in the United States, it is still one of the main new features of Apple’s “vintage 2022” smartphones. . According to information from Reuters, this emergency call function via satellite would be based both on a modem chip from Qualcomm (the X65 modem according to iFixit which dismantled the devices) but also on components specifically designed by Apple, as a company spokesperson confirmed to Reuters: “The iPhone 14 includes custom radio frequency components and new software built entirely by Apple, which together enable emergency SOS via satellite on the new iPhone 14 models”.

As for the Qualcomm X65 modem, it is capable of using a n53 frequency band used in particular by Globalstar satellites (the satellites to which the new iPhones in the USA are connected). Apple has not provided any information regarding the availability of this feature outside the United States.
