Access to Paxlovid has been expanded in New Brunswick to include anyone who tests positive for COVID-19, has mild to moderate symptoms, and is at risk increased serious complications due to the virus.
Pharmacists can now assess the patient and prescribe the antiviral treatment.
Previously, New Brunswickers had to see a doctor or nurse practitioner within five days of developing symptoms to find out if they were eligible for treatment. The change is intended to make it easier for eligible patients to consider this treatment option.
Paxlovid is the first oral antiviral treatment approved by Health Canada to treat COVID-19.
