A 19-year-old man stabbed in a Hochelaga park in Montreal

A 19-year-old man was stabbed Sunday night in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough in Montreal.

The armed assault occurred shortly before 11 p.m. in Raymond-Préfontaine Park, near the intersection of Moreau and Hochelaga streets, according to Montreal police.

According to initial information, an altercation between several individuals would have degenerated, before a suspect hit the young man in the upper body with a sharp object.

The victim located by the police was transported in a conscious state to a hospital to treat injuries that are not life-threatening.

No suspect has been located at this time, said spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Julien Lévesque.

A security perimeter has been erected to protect the crime scene, pending investigators assisted by the dog handler to analyze it and meet with witnesses, it was added.
