Sabaton bassist opens up on possibly his band ‘taking over’ after Iron Maiden and Judas Priest retire

Is Sabaton one of the bands that will take over from giants such as Metallica, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest? Sabaton bassist Pär Sundström recently gave his thoughts on the matter.

When asked in a recent interview with Robert Cavuoto of Metal Rules if he sees his band “dominating” the heavy music world once Iron Maiden and Judas Priest officially retire, he replied: “Well, we’ll see. First of all, I don’t want to see them retire, although eventually everyone will have to, including us too one day – one day hopefully in the distant future.”

He then explained: “We don’t focus so much on what other people are doing. We’re focused on what Sabaton does, and we’re doing pretty well right now – we’re constantly growing, playing for as many people as possible.”

He added : “I just hope that there will be someone to take over when some of these bands retire; I hope there will be new groups that will take over. If we are one of them, I will be happy. And I will do everything in my power to make sure. But we’ll see. That’s also up to the public to decide.”

Sabaton are considered one of the most important bands to emerge from the modern Swedish metal scene, having received numerous accolades. The group particularly won over the French public by replacing Manowar at the last minute during the 2019 edition of the emblematic festival located in Clisson.

Sabaton’s tenth studio album, The War To End All Wars, was released on March 4, 2022 via Nuclear Blast. Written and recorded during the global coronavirus pandemic, the concept album of 11 previously unreleased songs once again delves into the events of the First World War.
