Kraven the Hunter and Madame WebSony’s Spider-Man spin-offs, will finally be released later than expected.
Whereas the Warner company is currently going through a terrible economic period (the firm would be financially drained since the arrival of David Zaslav, the Kevin Feige of Warner, and the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery), the releases ofAquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Shazam! Fury of the Gods have recently been postponed. Two postponements which only add a stone to the edifice of Warner’s descent into hell, which with the cancellation of Batgirl and the legal setbacks of Ezra Miller, will surely find it difficult to recover.
But Warner is not the only company to have to deal with some unforeseen. With its Sony Spider-Man Universe, Sony was supposed to create its own extended universe, worthy of the MCU. After the terrible movies Venomthe firm recently returned the cover with the insignificant and degrading Morbius. After these dungeons, the expectations around the other films of the Sony Spider-Man Universe are no longer very high.
Despite everything, some projects can still manage to arouse the little interest we have left, such as Kraven the Hunter, a feature film that will introduce (yet again) a new enemy of Spider-Man, played this time by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. While the new big bad was to show the tip of his nose on January 18, 2023 in French cinemas, the media Collider reported that the film will finally be released on October 6, 2023 in the United States, at which time a certain Madame Web was planned. Sony may have feared that the phenomenon Avatar 2which will be released in theaters on December 14, 2022 and could monopolize attention for several weeks, does not affect the success of his film.
So the movie centered on the mentor and ally of Spider-Man played by Dakota Johnson, who had already seen her release date postponed from July 7, 2023 to October 6, 2023 is further delayed. Directed by SJ Clarkson, the feature film has offered a very promising cast since Emma Roberts, Sydney Sweeney, Adam Scott or even Tahar Rahim will find a role in it. Unless Sony decides to shake up its plans again, Madame Web should therefore be released on February 16, 2024 in the United Statesin other words in a very, very long time.
It is desirable, no ?
If no explanation for these postponements has been revealed, the two Spider-Man spin-offs aren’t the only movies that have been pushed backs. Indeed, the animated film Garfield which was to be released in February 2024 will finally be released in May of the same year, the science fiction film 65 with Adam Driver has been pushed back to March 2024, and the mysterious Sony/Marvel project has been shifted from June to July 2024. Hopefully these changes are just a schedule adjustment and not hiding a bigger problem ( since the Warner case, we are wary).
Sony has still kept some projects for the end of 2022 since Devotionthe aviation film with Glen Powell is still scheduled for November 23, 2022 in US theaters. The French release date should therefore not be long in coming.
