Guy Nantel ridicules Dawson College students in a new vox pop

Worried about the survival of the French language in Quebec, comedian Guy Nantel went to a place where few people know his famous vox pop: Cégep Dawson.

Wanting to demonstrate that Anglophones in Montreal have little or no interest in French-speaking Quebec culture, Nantel tested the knowledge of students and staff members of the college located in downtown Montreal on this subject.

“You doubted the relevance of applying the Charter of the French language in CEGEPs? Doubt no more. During this election period, the most relevant question for the survival of our language indeed concerns Bill 96 and the learning of French culture in English-speaking CEGEPs in order to put an end to the two solitudes”, writes on Facebook the one who once ran for the leadership of the Parti Québécois.

The participants in his video, whom he also thanks in his post on social networks, are having a hard time as they struggle to answer rather easy questions about the history and popular culture of Quebec.

Obviously, the recipe for success of Nantel’s capsules is to show only the best of the worst answers, and there is no doubt that a few educated English speakers have risen to the challenge with flying colors… except that they do not appear in the assembly.

This was probably also the case during the vox pop filmed at the demonstration against the vaccine passport, the march for the climate, the 2018 elections and on the history of Montreal.

On social networks, many have deplored the lack of curiosity and interest of Anglophones in French-speaking Quebec culture, a phenomenon that we ourselves had already noticed.

It is now assumed that English speakers in Montreal (and perhaps even in Canada) will discover Guy Nantel within a few hours, and that they will rip their shirts off denouncing his bad faith.

We welcome them among us!
