The Association of Comics Critics and Journalists (ACBD) announced the winner of its Comics Award on September 12th. This is Monstersby Barry Windsor-Smith, published in French by Delcourt, which won the support of the jury.
“Last work of an artist who marked the pop culture as much as the industry comic book, Monsters stands out brilliantly at the crossroads between the comic book of superheroes and the comic book independent. A true graphic performance worthy of the best illustrator-engravers, this album is as much a graphic slap as an emotional and intellectual power”, mentioned a member of the jury.
For four years, the Comics ACBD prize has been awarded to a comic strip published by an English-speaking publisher in a cultural area linked to comic books and translated into French for the entire Francophonie.
The four finalists for the ACBD Award were:
Beta Ray BilIby Daniel Warren Johnson (Panini Comics)
Raptorsby Dave McKean (Futuropolis)
blood seasonby Simon Spurrier and Matias Bergara (Dupuis)
All Laila Starr Deathsby Ram V and Filipe Andrade (Urban Comics)
